Magnificent British Hussar Officer's Uniform, Circa 1888. The blue wool dolman, the tight inner jacket, is covered in heavy gold lace and cord knots on the front and back and is fully lined. The domed buttons are gilt without regimental designation. The dolman does not have any rank or regimental insignia. The buff wool breeches also have gold lace and cord in Austrian knots. The pelisse, the fur trimmed short jacket, is of the same pattern as the dolman and is worn hanging loose over the left shoulder, attached by a hook and a gold cord and bullion lanyard. The cordovan leather boots are trimmed in gold cord with a gold boss below the cleft front. Made by Codner & Coombs, Haymarket, London, the boots are fitted with bright gilt spurs. The guertell, the dark red silk cord belt, has heavy gold bullion embellishments. The gold lace pouch belt, approximately 2" wide and lined with red Morocco leather, has bright gilt sterling silver prickers with chains, buckle, slide, and tip. The gilt silver hardware, hallmarked Birmingham, 1886 with a maker's mark of "B&P", has a Victorian Crown and the reversed and intertwined "DG" on the tip. The sword belt, sword slings, and sabertache slings are also gold lace with red Morocco leather. The fittings on the sword belt and slings are heavy gilt. Both the sabertache and pouch have a beautifully embroidered gold wire bullion Napoleonic style eagle in a dark red fabric and are backed in red Morocco leather. The uniform comes with a scarlet plume with a gilt mount in a Japanned tin tube. The entire rig is housed in a large Japanned tin tailor's box. The uniform is of outstanding quality and condition. The red silk lining of the pelisse is missing; otherwise, all parts are in near mint condition. Exceptional!
